Cicero

Marcus Tullius Cicero - from a speech in the Roman senate recorded by Sallust said;

"A nation can survive its fools and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and he carries his banners openly against the city. But the traitor moves among those within the gates freely, his sly whispers rustling through all alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears no traitor; he speaks in the accents familiar to his victim, and he wears their face and their garments and he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation; he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of a city; he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to be feared. The traitor is the plague."

The traitor may be the very politician for whom you cast your vote...

Any way you look at this you lose...

It's looking more and more like Hez is going to win this one as Israel is being pushed into a cease-fire by her putatitve allies - well, ally. Condi Rice is under the impression the cease-fire can be accomplished this week.

However you spin it, if Hez comes out of this intact, Israel (and the West) loses.

What is it with the West and our seeming inability to deal with the reality of "war" against terrorists?

A snippet from a letter to the editor, translated from the German: Der Tagesspiegel - the link is in German.

Thanks Pajamas Media for the link.

The translation is mine; my German is abyssmal, but this is pretty close.

"The social work of the Party of God (Hezbollah) consisted of building on these shelters (munitions depot) a school and a house! A local sheikh explained to me laughing that the Jews in each case lose, either because the rockets (are shot at Israel) or because if (Israel) attacked the camps, they are condemned by the world public (opinion) due to the civilian deaths. The Lebanese (people) do not interest these people (Hezbollah) at all, who uses her people as described (human shields) and if dead as propaganda. As long as they exist there, there will be no way to make peace." ~Dr. Mounir Herzallah,

Still feeling sorry for Lebanon?

Interview with Lebanese President Lahoud

Lahoud: Hezbollah enjoys utmost prestige in Lebanon, because it freed our country. All over the Arab world you hear: Hezbollah maintains Arab honor, and even though it (Hezbollah) is very small, it stands up to Israel. And of course Nasrallah has my respect.

Can you spell duplicity, children?

I thought so.

What else is news?

Philosophy Professor Stephen Kershnar claims he was denied a promotion to a full professorship after he wrote three opinion articles criticizing the university's affirmative action policy, its student code, and its lack of conservative professors.

In a letter, SUNY-Fredonia President Dennis Hefner told Kershnar he would not be promoted because of his "deliberate and repeated misrepresentations of campus policies ... to the media." Hefner later told the professor that, if he wanted a promotion, he would have to agree to a contract requiring him to get "unanimous consent" from a university committee before writing anything publicly about the university again. Kershner refused to sign the contract.
- agape press

Well, I hope to shout.

If Prof Kershnar worked for hoosiertoo Truck Repair and wrote op ed pieces for the local fishwrap criticising my hiring practices and my work rules, he'd be unemployed.

Before you get the idea I didn't get the point - yeah, all the genuflecting before the altar of "Free Speech" that the Leftards that run the universities do, you'd figure, what, that they would extend the same courtesy to their political opponents?

As if.

Think they'll behave any better if they manage to get the complete power they so desperately want?

As if.

UN ambulance picking up fighters in Gaza Strip

Just watch the video.

Wherein I find a problem -

Let's up front make clear that I'm a one-time Libertarian. I've voted Libertarian in all but two presidential election in my adult life, and that was for Anderson over Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan over Mondale. I'd have voted for just about anyone the GOP ran that year given the improvement over Carter.

The Libertarian Party has an infrastructure and a lack of qualified candidates - well any candidates, really, which is why they end up running so many loons.

Along comes a more than qualified candidate and - Voila! - a match made in heaven, right?

Err, maybe.

In an e-mail exchange, I asked a candidate why he was running as a Libertarian. I received the following in response:

I'm not connected much into the Party politics--for better and probably to some extent, for worse. But it is what it is. With them--and in this election-- I can only do the best I can with what I have. So, we'll see where that leads!
Uh, say again?

It's hard to take a party seriously that doesn't take itself seriously. A Party pimping candidates who don't even know what the Party stands for is hardly taking itself seriously. If I'm one of the rank and file, I'm sure I'm excited about my guy...

Scoring some name recognition in a highly divisive race with a candidate that may or may not (Who knows? The candidate sure doesn't!) even be able to articulate the Party's agenda smacks of mere media whoring, not that "media whoring" isn't necessary to get the message out but really, what are the Libertarians telling us here?

I can't help but think it's counterproductive in the long run.

I'm Sorry...

I've decided to force myself to post daily. Usually I roam the internet and post comments on other blogs. Really, it's what I like to do. Posting my own thoughts doesn't interest me nearly as much as finding out what others think.

Hell, I already know what I think. Posting it to the blog seems to be hubris, of so great a sin can be attributed to such a small vanity. It's just silly.

Oooo, I have a .wav snippet of John Cleese saying that! Look for it soon - maybe when the page is refreshed.

Nevertheless, I'm on the one-a-day plan from now on. I'm sure my one reader will care. Hope I don't overwork her.

kel, you really should comment more. At least help me make it LOOK like there might be some activity around here.

Swiped a cool idea from Degrees of Freedom; look for a random quote generator soon...

A Libertarian Alternative in the Indiana 9th.

I have been privileged to meet Dr. Schansberg while at the Acton University in Grand Rapids this past June. I feel that he would make a fine Congressman for Indiana, if that isn't an insult to him. Hey, he's volunteering for the job!

Seriously, if all the people who moaned about the shoddy job the "Bi-factional ruling party" does would cast a vote for real change, we might actually see some.

Please God, make it so!

If only he'd run in the 4th...

"Dr. Eric Schansberg has been a professor of Economics at Indiana University in New Albany for 14 years. He is an active writer with two books on public policy, including Turn Neither to the Right nor to the Left: A Thinking Christian's Guide to Politics and Public Policy.

Dr. Schansberg is also an evangelical Christian who has taught Bible studies for 15 years. He is the author of a Bible study on the book of Joshua and is the co-author of a 21-month Discipleship Curriculum, Thoroughly Equipped. Eric has been married to Tonia for 11 years and is the proud father of four boys—two by adoption and two the more conventional way."

Schansberg For Congress

from a report filed by David Mann July 15th, Jeffersonville/New Albany Evening News/Tribune

• Fox News Channel, June 26, from Tight rematch fought in rural Indiana district — “On the other hand, Eric Schansberg, a professor of economics at (sic) ‘Indiana University at Albany’ who is running as a Libertarian in the race, said voters seem unenthusiastic about either man. Too much political grandstanding and not a lot of substantive debate on the issues important to people — like gas prices, taxes, Social Security and overspending in Washington, D.C. — is taking its toll. ‘I don't think you find a lot of people who will say ‘I’m a huge Hill supporter.’ Same with Sodrel,’ said Schansberg, who argues Sodrel won in 2004 by riding Bush's coattails. ‘He was just a placeholder for the Republicans, just like Hill was a placeholder for the Democrats.’”

I need to get a cute little LP imaged link to go with the CP one.

Going Wobbly?

It appears that Israeli PM Olmert is having a second think about the Israeli war against Hizbullah in Lebanon. It's looking more and more like air power isn't having the desired effect on the organization's infrastructure. The IDF is facing the prospect of a bloody house to house and bunker to bunker fight with Hizbullah, who seem to welcome the prospect.

Surprise, surprise.

With the US in Iraq acting as a buffer between Iran and it's proxies in Syria, Gaza and Lebanon, if the the Israelis are ever going to take the bull by the horns and eliminate Hizbullah and Hamas as a threat, it's got to be now. To sue for peace and back out will only embolden their opponents - who seem to be plenty cheeky enough right at the moment - and the beginning of the end for the Jewish state, if Israel isn't undefendable already.

I pray it isn't so, but I don't see any good on the horizon for Israel.

As predicted

After 2 years, same-sex marriage icons split up

"Mary Breslauer, a spokeswoman for the couple, confirmed the separation last night. She said the couple are focused now on trying to do what is best for their daughter, Annie, 10."

Of course had that been the case, the child wouldn't have been exposed to such an environment in the first place...

Just do it, Ted!

Cynthia McKinney's opponent in the Democratic primary, Hank Johnson, has received a campaign contribution from the National FOP.

His main appeal seems to be that he isn't Cynthia McKinney, which certainly makes him more qualified to be a Congressman than McKinney, IMO. He has forced a runoff election to be held August 8th.

The FOP is still miffed over the Congresswoman's alleged striking of a Capitol cop who was merely trying to ID her.

I suppose we should all be thankful that Mr.Johnson, who, in an article that appeared in the Atlanta Jounal-Courier expressed his gratitude for the contribution by saying, "I'm honored our campaign has the strong support of those who risk their lives to preserve a civil, peaceful society," has taken it upon himself to rid the Congress of a national embarassment.

It's a little disheartening though that, apparently, being an utter idiot isn't reason enough to "un-elect" a Democrat Congresswoman in Alabama for 47% of Democrat voters in the primary. Maybe the FOP contribution will help Mr. Johnson get the job done.

Hey, I say whatever works.

Now if we could just provoke Ted Kennedy into smacking a cop...

Update Time!

I've spent some time on the blog, but not posting.

I've tweaked the template, added some links and content and have in general just been playing around.

If you have comments or suggestions let me know.

I'm getting ready to launch hoosiertoo.com and I've been playing around with various features just to see what I want to do.

Update time!

Most people believe that the separation of church and state is for the benefit of the state.

Just the opposite in fact.

Politics is a cancer to religion.

It serves neither God nor man to make Christianity the object of a referendum every 2-4 years. Vote your principles, just don't make the Party your Church and the leader of the party your god.
