It's February again...

Looking forward to riding season...
The freedom machine is in the shop. I got hit from behind after the Toy Run back in December. No injuries to anything but the bike, thank God! This time anyway...
I've been thinking about a "new" bike. Must be that time of year. Six more weeks of winter. Somebody kill that groundhog!

Have been catching up on some reading. The wife bought me a tablet for Christmas and the Kindle app is a beautiful thing. I didn't think I'd like e-books, and maybe I don't as much as a real book - there's something to physically holding a book, and the smell of an old book can't be duplicated.
I'm currently reading "That Hideous Strength" by C.S. Lewis. Even as science fiction, his Space Trilogy holds up remarkably well after all these years.
I recently polished off Vox Day's Selenoth offerings (Castalia House) - great stuff if you're into epic fantasy. Also John C. Wright's "One Bright Star to Guide Them." He's a writer in love with the language, much like Ray Bradbury to my mind.

Still don't post much. What posting I do is usually at websites where I can be the resident libertarian/Christian troll. It's more immediate feedback. If you care, most of my commenting is at pjmedia.com. If you don't, that's okay too.
Conservative websites have devolved lately, IMO.

I was posting at the aforementioned the other day and ran across a post from a user going by proteinwisdom. Dunno if it was Jeff Goldstein or not, but it jogged my memory. I used to read proteinwisdom quite a bit before I quit playing on the internet all the time. Unfortunately, when I went to check out the blog it was only to find that Jeff was hanging it up as of his 2/03/15 post. That's a shame. He's a heckuva writer and a great voice for liberty. I hope that was him at PJM and he's going to continue to make life miserable for the GOPe and progtards on the wider net. Thanks, Jeff!

Ron Paul for President! It's sure as death and taxes nothing much will change with the election of any of the bankster candidates. May as well support the only candidate who isn't proposing more of the same, only less. I've sent a few bucks Paul's way. He's not likely to win the nomination, but I haven't been happy with a Repugnicon candidate in many years now. 2012 probably won't be any different.
Much as I detest Barack Obama, I'll pull the lever for the Jackass-in-Chief just for spite if Romney is the Republican candidate. If it's Newt, I'll probaly go Constitution Party again.

Sons of Anarchy is my newest guilty TV pleasure. Thank God for for Netlix.

Update on my prior Roku review - I now have two of the amazing little boxes. Love 'em to death.
Update on my prior Verizon comments. Still hate 'em. Will switch when the current contract ends. Love my Samsung Convoy phone though. Simply superb.

Here's hoping Jim Irsay isn't channeling Al Davis. You'd think grownups would know better than to play Tweet Wars. Yeesh.

The Hoosiers and Pacers are back to respectable. The weather has been simply awesome for winter so far at least. The Super Bowl is in Indy. Ain't God good to Indiana? Yay!

Independence Day

I use Yahoo.com mail and My Yahoo as my portal for news, feeds, etc. The other day, I was perusing the headlines and checked into a story and followed up by reading the comments. I hardly ever check the comments at such sites, except for sports stories; I don't expect much from such comments and I'm rarely surprised. Reading the news story comments was a learning experience. Comments are unmoderated and of unusually low quality. Posters are allowed to rate comments (thumbs up or down.) Comments with low ratings are not displayed unless you opt to see them on a case-by-case basis. You would think people who are interested in the news of the day would have a reasonably good grasp on reality. Apparently, such is not the case.
Go to Yahoo.com sometime and look at the numbers of comments that accompany the news articles at the site. You'll find that there are usually far more comments per article than you will find at sites like Townhall.com or PajamasMedia.com. Then, for a truly disheartening experience, read those comments left by the (mostly) drooling imbeciles who congregate in the forums there. For a real treat, post a well-reasoned comment that doesn't toe the mob's PC line. Prepare to be shouted down, or worse, be subjected to the indignity of those same nattering idiots rating your comment so low as to not be seen. Still, they babble on and on, bereft of reason or civility.
These, friends, are the Americans we need to re-educate if we are going to take back America and restore the Republic? Bah. Who wants it?
Find a defensible chunk of real estate and secede from the death cultists? Now we're talking. I just want to know where to sign up.

Errata
Obviously, I haven't been doing much in the way of blogging. Not that anyone has likely missed my screeds...

I have spent a lot of time catching up on my reading, mostly American Revolution and Civil War. I've spent WAY too much time watching TV lately. Mostly I watch movies, sports and news - I never watch series television. Netflix on the Roku device (which is still performing marvelously) is addictive. There are some decent movies that flew under the radar, and a lot of foreign films I wouldn't have been exposed to otherwise, that eat up a couple of hours a day. Plus it seems a waste to let that new 52" plasma go unwatched. My remining free time is usually spent w/grandchildren or motorcycling, or yard work, or doing ANYTHING besides in front of my computer typing out this drivel.

The good people of Massachusetts declined to resurrect Kennedy's bloated corpse and return him to the Senate. Good for them. They did, however, elect a big government liberal - albeit with an "R" after his name. Oh, well. I guess you can't have anything.
