Hoosiers Top Michigan State
IU 78 - MSU 71How sweet it is!
We add to our NCAA resume and my Michigander wife gets to sulk for a week or so. Hopefully we get to add to her misery come the weekend when we play the Wolverweasels. Unfortunately, it's on the road where we have a perfect record.
Perfectly awful. As in "0" for the season in B10 play.
But first, Purdue at Hackey Arena Wednesday night. Complete the sweep and I can add to my "Trophy Board" which includes pix of wins over the PUkes and pUKes this year.
On the coaching front: Randy Wittman is being touted as the new Hoosier coach by ESPN's Michael Wilbon, who averred it was a done deal on Pardon the Interruption Monday night.

This and That...
* Now that it seems that Ted has given up on his quest to correct my theology, I can go back to posting to myself again. Now that he has heard Truth - not to mention rational argument, maybe he'll come to his senses vis a vis the Church, and while I suspect I'll not see him in Mass anytime soon, I hope he gets out of the hateful Church of Chick.
* It seems that a certain catfish-lovin' hick lawyer from Southern Illannoy - and I don't mean Abe Lincoln - and I are going to be cheering on our respective teams come basketball season for the next couple of years. My beloved Hoosiers will be taking on the evil Salukis in a home-and-home series.
Come September 16th, we'll give the Salukis a foretaste of defeats to come on the hardwood when we pummel them on the gridiron.

SIU will travel to Bloomington, Ind., early next season. The Hoosiers will roll into SIU Arena on Dec. 1, 2007, for a contest sure to be highly anticipated by Salukis fans. Indiana played at SIU on Dec. 1, 2001, the last time a team from one of the six power conferences ventured into SIU Arena. A sold-out crowd witnessed a 72-60 win by the Salukis.Additionally, SIU football will meet the Big Ten Conference program on Sept. 16. *Anyway, back to the "Coach Watch." Cavs coach and Hoosier alum Wittman has interviewed for the head coach position at IU. Not much difference between Alford and Wittman, IMO, but at least he doesn't have Alford's record at Iowa to endear him to the Hoosier faithful.
* Sunday's game at Assembly Hall (Senior Day) vs MSU is a must win if we're to make a convincing case for inclusion in the NCAA tourney this year.
I suspect we're NIT bound, though. I wonder if Davis and the team will even bother? After last year's no show against Vandy, I'm not sure there's enough motivation if we have to settle for the NIT to make a run anyway.
* Not that I really give a crap, but the Sunnis and Shiites are making a hash of "democracy" in Iraq. As long as we don't try to play peacemaker between the two warring sides... I think we'd be better off getting the hell out of there and letting them kill each other off. Maybe the Kurds will inherit the whole mess.

Hoosier Nation in Disarray
Following the debacle in Bloomington vs. Iowa today, Hoosier Nation is looking at 5 losses in the Big Ten(11) and a 13-8 overall record.
Losers of 5 of 6 and seemingly unable to win on the road, with a team that looks to be in disarray and, according to more than one source, a coach who intends to resign are all signs that don't augur well for the rest of the season.
I gave up weeks ago. IU basketball has become unwatchable. Consistently poor fundamentals, matador defense and inconsistent play, not to mention the ugliest offense in NCAA Div 1.
The only good news is that Mike Davis is probably out. Unfortunately, it's also bad news. Davis, whatever his faults as a coach, seems to be a genuinely good guy and is well-liked by his players. It's hard to feel good about anything to do with this whole sad situation.
Even worse, the timetable is up in the air and the players seem to be demoralized. If Mike Davis is truly on the way out, it would be best to end it now, rather than drag it out for the rest of the season.
The King is terminally ill. It's time to choose his successor and finish it.
Long live the King - whoever it is to be.

A Plague on Both Their Houses
Posted this on a message board I infrequently frequent. kel (see links on left) seems to think this is worthy of posting here. As I value kel's opinion, I think I will.

In the *mostly* libertarian discussion groups I regularly follow, Republicans and Democrats are referred to as the "Bi-factional Ruling Party" (BuRP) or, alternately, Republicrats.
I believe the last reference to the idiot wing of the Democratic Party included the words "utterly clueless cretins on the left."
Bush supporters are routinely labelled "Three Monkey Republicans" and the folks (see: NRO) who seem to conflate their religion with a particular political party are routinely - and justly, IMO - derided.
In these circles Hillary Clinton (aka: The Lizard Queen) is the presumed next POTUS, provided the Republicans don't do something stupid like run Condi Rice and split the permanently aggrieved minority vote.
As the only difference this will make for the Republic is, well, not much, I feel confident that a wasted vote for a 3rd Party candidate will still not matter a whit.
Good thing they repealed prohibition.
Bah, humbug.
