Sunday Ride: Maumee and Port Charles

Battle of Fallen Timbers Monument

Another view.

On the shores of Lake Erie in Port Charles.

****

Across Northern Indiana through Fort Wayne - hit one of the biggest potholes I've ever hit - and hard. Had to retrieve a couple of things that popped out of my windshield pouches.

On to Defiance and basically a tour of historical markers. Nothing much else to see.

Headed on to Maumee and checked out the Battle of Fallen Timbers Monument then on through Toledo, where the Mud Hens had a home game - nice stadium and a welcome sign of life in an otherwise dead downtown - otherwise, a ride I'll likely never repeat. One fading and dirty industrial city is pretty much like any other.

Later - on to Port Charles and dinner by the like.

Hauled butt back to Fort Wayne at night, where I got soaked. Nothing more fun than riding through a driving rainstorm on the interstate. Not.

Back home. Tired, chilled, damp and feeling wonderful. Mrs. Hoosiertoo a little cranky, though.

Repair in progress...

After the Toy Run in December, I hung around Lafayette and picked up a couple of items.

The result was getting rear-ended by a little old lady in a Honda SUV. I guess thinking about your next stop is more important than paying attention to what you're ACTUALLY DOING!

Getting it ready for riding season...

I have - finally - signed up for Facebook...

****
and am unimpressed.

Signed up for Skype and part of the signup process was a pitch for Facebook, to which I succumbed. My family have all adopted the social network and so I decided to take the plunge and give it a try. It has all the depth of a Yahoo! comments page with the ability to at least filter the commenters, but the lack of depth which seems to be a hallmark of the site is annoying, at least to me. My wall is covered with graffiti and the sheer volume generated by just 9 friends is amazing.
I suspect that that at least two of them are professional content providers. How they find the time to post so much is beyond me.

60 degrees and the mid-winter thaw is well under way, as is my annual bout with hacking pain in the posterior lung problem I got this year, now entering its third month. Every year it gets harder to kick it and this year has been a real bitch. I've managed to stay out of the hospital this time - at least so far - but almost caved the night before last as I couldn't get my breath and my chest hurt from trying to hack up the latest hairball. Sleeping is the biggest problem. I'm tired all the time. I've begun medication, so we'll see how that works out.

I've been hard presssed not to drag the bike out for a ride, however brief, but, Lord, the last couple of days have been glorious. My last ride was on New Year's Eve (probably why I have pneumonia or something now) and the road calls. I have maintenance to perform before I will allow myself to get the bike out, and I mean to get it done before I talk myself out of doing it. Once the bike comess out, I'd rather ride than work on it. As my garage is not heated, if it's nice enough to ride, it's nice enough to work.

October was my last post, huh?

Huh.

Warm enough, and time...

****
Once again, the worst part of the ride was getting out of the driveway. A quick thaw turns it into muck. Once on the road, it was a great day for a ride. Still plenty of snow cover in the valleys, though:

The road goes on forever...

Waiting for spring...

Not THE motorcycle...
It snowed again - not much at all -last night.
This is sitting in the side yard waiting to be dragged into the garage, where it will act as an impediment to smooth marital relations until the wife is allowed to park in the garage again.
Come spring, it will become roadworthy once again. My brother seems to think it is the perfect bike to let Dad ride, although I suspect Dad is long past the time he should be on a motorcycle.
It is a 1977 - I think - Honda CB750A that belongs to my brother. I totalled one of these about 15 years ago on I-65 in downtown Indy, but that's another story.
